Matthias Jung (conductor)

Matthias Jung (* 1964 in Magdeburg ) is a German choir director and conductor .

Life

Matthias Jung received a musical education at the special school for music and in the radio youth choir Wernigerode . This was followed by studies in choral and orchestral conducting at the Liszt School of Music Weimar . There he founded the Vocal Consort Weimar .

He was first appointed to the Tölzer Knabenchor , then to the Dresden Kreuzchor . From 1994 to 1996 he was acting cross choirmaster , produced under an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon and made guest appearances in Europe, Japan and the USA .

Numerous works of the Central German musical landscape, especially the Dresden court church music as well as compositions from the holdings of the Princely and State School St. Augustin Grimma were developed and performed again by him. Matthias Jung is committed to the performance of contemporary vocal music with the same commitment.

Well-known ensembles signed Matthias Jung, such as the radio choirs in Berlin , Hamburg (NDR) and Cologne (WDR) . Jung received the sponsorship award from the state capital Dresden .

In 1996 Matthias Jung founded the Saxon Vocal Ensemble , which he has been leading ever since. Since 1998 he has also directed the Dresden Boys' Choir and the Dresden Motet Choir at the Heinrich Schütz Conservatory in Dresden . He was one of four candidates for the office of the Leipzig Thomaskantor, to be filled in 2016 .

Jung is married, has four children and lives in Reichenberg near Dresden.
