Friedrich Christian Hermann Uber (born April 22, 1781 in Breslau ; † March 2, 1822 in Dresden ) was a German composer and Kreuzkantor .

Hermann Uber, born as the son of the lawyer and music lover Christian Benjamin Uber , studied law in Halle (Saale) and received musical training from Daniel Gottlob Türk . He got a position as a chamber musician with Prince Louis Ferdinand .

From 1807 he was first violinist in Braunschweig . In 1808 King Jérôme Napoleon appointed him to Kassel as opera conductor . From 1814 he was Kapellmeister of the theater in Mainz , from 1816 music director of a theater group in Dresden. From 1818 until his death he was music director of the Kreuzkirche and Kreuzkantor.

Uber composed French and one German operas , interludes , cantatas , a passion and a violin concerto . Stylistically, he was a representative of romanticism .

Uber's brother Alexander Uber (* 1783 in Breslau; † 1824 in Breslau) was a cello virtuoso (student of Johannes Jäger ) and conductor. A cello concerto , overtures , variations for cello and orchestra, various instrumentals and songs by him have come down to us.
