Friedrich Wilhelm Agthe

Friedrich Wilhelm Agthe (* 1796 in Sangerhausen , † 19 August 1830 in Pirna ) was a German composer and from 1822 to 1828 Kreuzkantor in Dresden .

Life

Agthe received organ and singing lessons from the organist in his hometown and then studied for two years with August Eberhard Müller , the grand ducal conductor in Weimar and former Thomaskantor . During this time, several of his works were performed and published.

In 1818 he became a member of the Royal Chapel in Dresden. At that time he composed a cantata for the dedication of the town church in Bischofswerda , which was performed by the Royal Chapel and Francesco Morlacchi .

In May 1828 Agthe became mentally ill and was brought to the Dresden city hospital in June. Since his condition did not improve, he was transferred to the Sonnenstein asylum near Pirna in July , where he died in 1830.

Agthe includes a cantata, a motet and a kyrie, songs , piano and harpsichord works and a horn concerto.

His daughter was the actress Rosa Agthe .
