Christoph (orus) Neander (aka: Christoph (orus) Neumann ; * December 18, 1589 in Colditz ; † January 21, 1625 in Dresden ) was Kreuzkantor in Dresden from 1615 to 1625 .

From 1601 Neander studied at the Thomas School in Leipzig , where he was a student of Sethus Calvisius , and began studying theology in 1610. In addition, he attended natural science lectures with Wolfgang Corvinus and in 1613 earned his master's degree at the philosophical faculty.

As a student he was already a cantor at the Paulinerkirche and organized concerts there, which were widely recognized in Leipzig. At the suggestion of his friend and predecessor Samuel Rühling , he applied for the position of Kreuzkantor in Dresden and was hired on October 13, 1615.

Neander was considered a capable and important cantor, and under his direction the Kreuzchor took off significantly. After his early death in 1625, Michael Lohr succeeded him.
