Basil Petritz

Basil Petritz (baptized on May 20 . Jul / the thirtieth May  1647 greg. In Großenhain , † 6. September 1715 in Dresden ) was 1694-1713 Kreuzkantor in Dresden.

Life

Petritz was an alumnus at the Thomasschule in Leipzig from 1661 to 1671 and then studied at the University of Leipzig . He succeeded the later Thomas Cantor Johann Schelle as cantor in Eilenburg , where he had a formative influence on the young Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow . He held this position until his application for the Kreuzkantorat in 1694.

On July 21, 1694, the City Council of Dresden issued its certificate of appointment the day after his introduction. No news has been received about Petritz's term of office. Apparently he was ailing in the last years of his life, because his future successor Johann Zacharias Grundig increasingly took over his duties, which, apart from school service, were officially assigned to him by the council in December 1713, while Petritz was allowed to stay in the cantor's apartment with two thirds of his income. Petritz died in Dresden in 1715 and was buried in the second Annenkirchhof .

One of Petritz's sons worked as a cantor in St. Anne's Church.
