Jacob Beutel (born March 2, 1624 in Niedergrund , † May 15, 1694 in Dresden ) was Kreuzkantor in Dresden from 1654 to 1694 .

Life

Nothing is known about bag's early years and his education. When he applied to succeed Michael Lohr as Kreuzkantor in Dresden in 1654 , he was cantor in Luckau . In his application he succeeded in asserting himself against competitors such as Johann Rosenmüller and Christoph Schultz (of whom a St. Luke Passion was published in Leipzig in 1653), as well as a protégé of the future Elector Johann Georg .

The establishment of two so-called “council discantists” offices as well as an expansion of the choir in the Kreuzkirche and numerous measures to improve the formation of the Kreuzkirche go back to Beutel.

After he had suffered a "dangerous accident" at the end of 1692, he asked for his retirement in January 1694, the year he died. He was succeeded by Basilius Petritz .

Bag's most famous student was the composer, writer and later Thomaskantor Johann Kuhnau .
