Construction documentation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term construction documentation comprises the recording of all processes that have ever taken place on a structure for immediate and later use. The definitions presented here mainly refer to Austria.

term

The construction documentation can refer to new buildings as well as extensions or conversions .

In addition, the documentation of the ongoing maintenance of a structure will become more and more important in the future.

Proper construction documentation must comply with the respective country-specific ordinances or the qualities prescribed by the client in the sense of the client or the legislator .

Types of construction documentation

Paper form

The creation in this way is practically no longer practiced due to the very large amounts of data now even for relatively small building projects (e.g. residential complex with 30 units).

Digital construction documentation

This form has largely prevailed. There are numerous providers of such software as well as numerous digital systems for construction documentation created by companies or users themselves.

A software for construction documentation should at least meet the following requirements:

  • Location-independent: The documentation or its components can be recorded and created directly on the construction site with a computer (e.g. tablet).
  • Suitable for multimedia: Documentation is possible using written, audio or video notes, photos, etc.
  • The components of the documentation (texts, images, etc. - see above) can be arranged precisely in terms of space and time at any time (even afterwards).
  • Constant updating of the data makes all documentation steps traceable at all times.

Judicial recognition as evidence

Useful methods of construction documentation are those that are also recognized in court in the event of a dispute. This type of software is not very widely used yet.
