Bauphysik is the only German-language specialist journal in the field of building physics. It was founded in 1979 in the wake of the energy crisis and is published every two months by Ernst & Sohn.

The journal publishes around 35 scientific articles and project reports with an interdisciplinary background as well as reports on current technical developments in the fields of heat, humidity, sound, fire, light and energy in building structures. Its authors include a. the former directors of the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) Karl Gertis , Gerd Hauser and Klaus Sedlbauer . Members of the editorial board are Heinz-Martin Fischer ( University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart ), Nabil A. Fouad ( Leibniz University Hannover ), Karl Gertis (until 2013: IBP Holzkirchen ) and Andreas Wagner ( KIT Karlsruhe ). The editor-in-chief of Bauphysik is Claudia Ozimek.

Building physics has been listed in the Journal Citation Report by Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) since June 4, 2008 ; the impact factor for 2019 is 0.242.
