Karl Gertis
Karl Gertis (born October 23, 1938 in Munich ) is a German building physicist and composer. He was head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics and is emeritus of the Institute for Acoustics and Building Physics at the University of Stuttgart .
Life
Karl Gertis studied at the Technical University of Munich , where he obtained his degree in mechanical engineering in 1963. In 1969 he received his doctorate at the University of Stuttgart and, after his habilitation in 1972, received the Venia Legendi for building physics as a private lecturer . In 1971 he became head of department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics . In 1974 he was offered a professorship at the University of Essen, where he established the first chair for building physics since 1976. In 1984 he was appointed full professor of building physics at the University of Stuttgart, where he worked until his retirement in 2007. In personal union he was director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics in Stuttgart until 2003 .
Gertis belonged to the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning. Gertis has received several awards abroad, including a. as an honorary doctorate in engineering and technical sciences and as a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His research activities encompassed all sub-areas of building physics, such as heat, energy saving, humidity, building and room acoustics as well as noise control, daylight supply of buildings and climate-friendly building.
Gertis also works as a trombonist, conductor and composer. He created around 100 compositions for orchestra, choir, quartets, alphorn, organ, singing, which were performed in numerous concerts.
