Doris Greiner-Mai

Doris Greiner-Mai (born July 8, 1945 in Ernstthal ; † May 2020 in Berlin) was a German civil engineer and specialist journalist and was editor-in-chief of the magazine Bautechnik .

Life

After graduating from high school, Greiner-Mai studied civil engineering at the University of Architecture and Construction in Weimar (HAB) from the winter semester 1964/65 and obtained his diploma in 1970 . Greiner-Mai worked as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Concrete and Prestressed Concrete Construction headed by Erhard Hampe . a. was involved in the development of the formulas for the Hampes monographs on planar structures . 1973 Greiner-Mai was the HAB with an investigation into large cooling towers for Dr.-Ing. PhD. Two years later she moved to the Institute for Industrial Building at the GDR Building Academy . There she dealt with lightweight constructions , textile flat structures and later with the construction of nuclear power plants .

In 1982 Greiner-Mai became a lecturer for building science literature at the Berlin publishing house for construction . There she accompanied numerous specialist monographs , such as those by Hampe on surface structures and silos, some of which were also published as licensed editions in the Federal Republic of Germany. Greiner-Mai took over the editing of Domenico Fontana's reprint, published by Werner-Verlag in Düsseldorf in 1987 and edited by Dietrich Conrad, The way in which the Vatican obelisk was transported, which through contributions and the like. a. was supplemented by Thomas Hänseroth and Klaus Mauersberger. In 1991 she took over the editorial management of the journal Bautechnik of the Ernst & Sohn publishing house .

With their concept, which gave this magazine a new face, the first in-house editorial team was created within the publishing house as an example of the realignment of the Stahlbau magazine , which Greiner-Mai initiated in 1995 together with Ernst Karl Schneider. In addition to structural engineering, Greiner-Mai gave geotechnical engineering more space in the magazine, which was reflected in the appointment of Achim Hettler to the structural engineering editorial board . Finally, Greiner-Mai sponsored the publications of Dieter Conrad, Thomas Hänseroth , Karl-Eugen Kurrer , Herbert Ricken , Wilhelm von Wölfel and others. a. to the history of construction technology. In addition, she initiated numerous book projects. She retired in 2010.

Greiner-Mai attached great importance to a balanced relationship between detail and overview as well as content and form of the articles published in the field of civil engineering , without neglecting categories such as personal information, reviews, etc. She herself used the text form of the editorial , the glossary , the short technical report, the conference report and the review . In May 2020, Ms. Greiner-Mai died unexpectedly of natural causes in her apartment in Berlin and was only found by a family member after her death. The exact date of death is therefore not known.
