Corporate development

VEB Verlag Technik in Berlin was a specialist book and specialist magazine publisher in the GDR . It was founded on July 1, 1946 . In addition to the specialist book publisher Leipzig , it was one of the most important publishers for specialist books in the field of technology and natural sciences in the GDR up to and including the years immediately after the GDR reunification in reunified Germany , after which the number of new publications in the publishing house decreased significantly. He also published many specialist magazines for various technical fields (e.g. radio, television, electronics , MP microprocessor technology , new technology in the office , agricultural technology ).

The physicist and philosopher Klaus Zweiling , who ran the publishing house from 1950 to 1955 and against whom a campaign for “pest work in the field of ideology” was initiated, played a notable episode during the early years of the publishing house . Rehabilitated in 1955, he was promoted to full professor of dialectical materialism to the Humboldt University of Berlin appointed

In the course of German reunification , VEB Verlag Technik was converted into a GmbH on July 1, 1990 , of which the Treuhandanstalt was 100% owner . From this, the Munich publisher Wolfgang Huss bought the ReWi Verlag für Recht und Wirtschaft (formerly the state publisher of the GDR), the publisher Die Wirtschaft, the Verlag für Bauwesen and the Verlag Technik in September 1991. 31 of the 100 employees at Verlag Technik had been taken over by then.

Initially, Verlag Technik retained its legal form as a GmbH and thus became a subsidiary of Huss-Medien GmbH in Berlin, but lost its still independent, formal legal existence on January 1, 1999 and was incorporated into Huss-Medien GmbH on this date. This also ends the membership of Verlag Technik in the German book trade association ; the book trade traffic number used until then was transferred to Huss-Medien GmbH.
