Building board

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under building board is both in dry as well as in Gewerk the tiler understood a plate, on the basis of an extruded polystyrene core on both sides of a glass fabric- reinforced comprises cementitious coating. In this trade, tile support elements are also used.

history

In 1982/83 panels of this type came onto the market for the first time. Originally they were intended to cover bathtubs in order to speed up the unpopular and very time-consuming work of covering or walling in in the trade by using a prefabricated panel. At the same time, the thin-bed method had established itself for laying tiles . Some manufacturers from the chemical industry even wanted to go so far as to cover these panels with tiles in a production plant and only have the finished element installed. However, there were objections to this on the part of the trade , since the large number of possible tiles alone made prefabrication seem impractical.

Examples

Material properties

Due to the core materials used, this special type of panel is resistant to water and rot and is very dimensionally stable under both thermal and hygric stresses.

The closed- cell foam cannot absorb water. The core is coated with a glass fabric reinforced cement mortar . This creates a stable, lightweight and waterproof construction material, the universally to prepare surfaces on construction sites of building construction can be used both for cleaning and for tiles or natural stone.

Use as an insulating material

The building board can be used as an insulating material . With a thermal conductivity of 0.036 W / (m K) and a relatively high density against water vapor diffusion , this material is suitable as interior insulation. For this purpose, panels with at least one smooth side and a spatula edge are also available, which enable a level filling and thus allow wallpaper as a surface in addition to plaster or tile.

processing

The light panels (approx. 3–5 kg / panel) can be cut to size with a cutter , foxtail or jigsaw. They are applied with thin-bed mortar or medium- bed mortar on prepared substrates or on lumps of mortar. To ensure the load-bearing capacity of the surface of the subsurface, they are sometimes additionally secured with knock-in dowels (when laying lumps of mortar). When used on sub-structures of drywall made of metal profiles or wood, the panels are mechanically fastened with screws and insulation panel plates suitable for the sub-floor. As well as being used over a large area, these elements can be used to create three-dimensional structures such as washstands, seats, loungers, round showers or the like. In order to take full advantage of the waterproof properties of the material, various methods of sealing the joints have been developed. Building boards are available that can be glued together in the joint area with a special hybrid adhesive. Any adhesive that has swelled must be smoothed out and used to check that the adhesive seam is complete.
