The building stone of Gjerde is a menhir in the cemetery of Etne on the Etnefjorden in Gjerde in Fylke Vestland in Norway .

The building stone, which is about 6.0 meters high and 40 cm wide, is almost vertical and has a round cross-section and a sharp point. The surface is smooth compared to other menhirs. In modern times someone has carved a cross almost at the top of the stone .

Some menhirs are not related to recognized graves. It may be that they served as a boundary marker. This includes several stones in Fana in Bergen , where there was a historical border in Hordaland in the Middle Ages.

Nearby are the rock carvings on Helgaberget , the rune stone from Grindheim and the building stones from Erland .
