The Bavarian Lloyd AG ( Acronym : BL ) is a 1913 founded inland shipping company - and transport companies.

history

After the southern German Danube Shipping Company passed into Austrian ownership in 1911 , the establishment of Bayerischer Lloyd corresponded to the desire to operate a national shipping company on the Danube again. From 1927 it operated in a joint venture with the First Danube Steamship Company . In 1978 Rhenus-WTAG took over the majority of the shares; notable shares are still held by the federal government and the Free State of Bavaria.

The main business of the shipping company with subsidiaries in Hungary , Cyprus , Turkey and Egypt is the transport shipping on the Danube and truck traffic. Furthermore, Bayerischer Lloyd operates storage services and recyclable materials.

Technology history

The positive results with the first Voith-Schneider drive on a test boat from the Lürssen shipyard meant that in 1929 Bayerischer Lloyd received an order from Deggendorfer Werft und Eisenbau GmbH to build the Uhu push boat with a diesel engine and two Voith Schneider drives each 350 hp issued. That was the first ship with Voith Schneider propulsion. However, it did not prove itself, so in 1939 it was converted into a tug with screw drive.
