Beersheba prison

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Beer Sheva Prison is a maximum security prison in the Israeli Negev desert near Beer Sheva, completed in 1977 .

The prison has around 500 inmates who are classified as particularly dangerous ( security detainees ) and mostly sentenced to life imprisonment . Most of them are Palestinians who planned suicide bombings, developed bombs or carried out rocket attacks, but also ordinary Israeli criminals.

Be'er Scheva is, like the prison system of the United States , a maximum security prison. It is surrounded by a simple fence, an electrically charged fence, and a concrete wall with watchtowers and snipers . In addition, video systems and dogs secure the area.

After six ships of the Free Gaza movement were arrested, some blockade breakers were arrested here before they were deported, including the German journalist Mario Damolin and the activist and bishop Hilarion Capucci .
