Beat Brenk

Beat Hermann Brenk (born February 15, 1935 in Basel ) is a Swiss art historian .

Life

After completing his doctorate in art history at the University of Basel in 1960 , he received a scholarship from the Fonds national suisse de la recherche scientifique from 1963 to 1969 (stay and research in Rome at the German Archaeological Institute and the Bibliotheca Hertziana ). From 1969 to 1971 he was a visiting scholar at Dumbarton Oaks . In 1971 he taught as a visiting professor at the University of Hamburg and in 1972 as a visiting professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and from 1973 to 1975 as a visiting professor at the University of Utrecht . From 1977 to 2002 he was a full professor of early Christian and medieval art history and archeology and director of the art history department at the University of Basel.
