Beate Zimpelmann

Beate Zimpelmann is a German chemist and political scientist, trade unionist and professor at the University of Bremen .

Beate Zimpelmann studied chemistry, geography and political science for teaching at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau and the University of Oldenburg . She received her doctorate from the University of Oldenburg as Dr. rer. pole. She then worked at the Science Center for Social Research in Berlin in the field of "Technology-Work-Environment".

From 1993 to 1996 she was in charge of the “Energy and Environmental Policy ” department at IG Metall's overall board in Frankfurt. From 1996 to 2002 Zimpelmann was the head of the “Work and Environment” program area at the Senate Department for Work, Vocational Education and Training and Women in Berlin. There she was responsible for setting up and managing EU funding programs. In 2005 she was appointed to the professorship in "Politics in Practice" at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen and took over the management of the "International Political Management" (ISPM) course, later also that of the "International Sustainability Politics and Management" course.

Zimpelmann has been chairwoman of the “Competence Center Sustainability in Global Change” (GLOKAL) since 2007. She uses the term “ sustainability ” in her research on the world of work with operational development and change processes. Her research focuses on the topics of "holistic work" and the reduction of working hours . She is interested in an exchange with actors from nature conservation and the environmental movement , but prioritizes the socio-economic aspects (jobs) over the ecological demands.

Zimpelmann is a member of Attac's Scientific Advisory Board .
