Beatrice Wishart

Beatrice Wishart (born 1955 or 1956 in Lerwick ) is a Scottish Liberal Democrat politician and Member of the Scottish Parliament for the constituency of Shetland . She won her seat in a by-election in 2019 after her predecessor, former chairman of the Scottish Liberal Democrats and former Scottish Minister of Transport, Tavish Scott , stepped down to take up a post with the Scottish Rubgy Association .

Life

Wishart was born in Lerwick, the capital of the Shetlands, and spent most of her life on the archipelago. She attended Anderson High School in Lerwick. After living and working in Orkney for a while, she has been living in Lerwick again since 2007. She has three daughters and five grandchildren.

Political career

Wishart led long time the local office of the House -Abgeordneten Alistair Carmichael and her predecessor Tavish Scott in Shetland. From 2017 to 2019 she was an independent MP in the Shetland Council for Lerwick South and a member of the Education Committee there. Since September 3, 2019, she has been a member of the Scottish Parliament and spokeswoman for the Liberal Democrats on education. She is a member of the Education Committee and the Committee on Culture, Tourism, European and Foreign Affairs.

Wishart is a Vice-Chairperson for the Scottish Independence Convention.
