Shreefpunk is a German jazz band that was founded in 2003 by Matthias Schriefl . She appears both in a combo line- up and reinforced with strings or big band .
history
The band was founded in 2003. It was originally a quartet . As a band leader, Matthias Schriefl demanded a certain “punk attitude” from his band members. Hanno Busch noted this with "Schriefl-Punk" on his music portfolio. Schriefl's nickname "Shreef" in combination with the lettering on the music portfolio resulted in the band name. From the third appearance of the band, the name is used that way.
“Our guitarist said back then that we play punk. He had initially suggested writing punctuation as a name. But I didn't want to mix English and German, that's why I made Shreefpunk out of it. "
Tours and concerts
In 2006 Matthias Schriefl won the WDR Jazz Prize as a trumpeter , whereupon the four musicians received an invitation from the Goethe Institute to tour West Africa. In 2007 the ACT label released their debut album Shreefpunk plus Strings , which was followed by concerts in the Cologne Philharmonic , with guest musician Django Bates , the North Sea Jazz Festival and tours to Estonia , Australia and Portugal . Since the release of the live album Shreefpunk Live in Cologne , the band played concerts a. a. in the Megaro Mousikis in Athens , in the Konserthuset in Stockholm , in the Hamburg Laeiszhalle , in the L'Auditori in Barcelona , in the Philharmonie Luxembourg , in the Cité de la musique in Paris , in the Koninklijk Concertgebouw in Amsterdam , in the Wiener Konzerthaus and in the Sydney Opera House .
occupation
Matthias Schriefl , Robert Landfermann , Jens Düppe and Hanno Busch played in the original line-up . In 2005 Johannes Behr replaced the guitarist Hanno Busch. At times Kalle Kalima and Christian Lillinger also played in the band. Today the band forms a trio with Matthias Schriefl (trumpet), Alexander Morsey (bass) and Alex Eckert (guitar). Sebastian Merk is often present on drums as a guest . The band is occasionally strengthened by a string section (most recently by the Netnakisum band or strings of the Munich Philharmonic ) or a big band .
