Beatrix of Castile (1293-1359)

Beatrix of Castile (* 1293 ; † October 25, 1359 ) was a princess of Castile and queen of Portugal from 1325 to 1357 .

Beatrix was born the daughter of King Sancho IV , the reckless one. She had six siblings, including King Ferdinand IV of Castile and Duchess Elisabeth of Brittany , the wife of Duke John III.

In 1309 she married the Portuguese heir to the throne, and when he ascended the throne as Alfonso IV in 1325 , she became Queen of Portugal (as a wife, not as ruler in her own right).

She is not to be confused with Beatrix of Castile (1242-1303), a half-sister of her father, who was the wife of Alfonso III. was also Queen of Portugal from 1253 to 1279.
