Beatriz Lockhart

Beatriz Lockhart (born January 17, 1944 in Montevideo ; † November 23, 2015 there ) was a Uruguayan composer and pianist.

Lockhart was a student of Emilia Conti at the La Lira Conservatory . In 1959 she entered the Conservatorio Nacional , where she studied composition with Carlos Estrada and Héctor Tosar and piano with Hugo Balzo . In 1969 she went to the Centro Latinoamericano de Altos Estudios Musicales in Buenos Aires and studied contemporary and electroacoustic music with Alberto Ginastera , Gerardo Gandini and Francisco Kröpfl . Finally, she completed her training at the Instituto Ítalo-Latinoamericano de Roma and Franco Donatoni .

Lockhart lived in Venezuela until 1998. After her return to Uruguay she taught music theory, harmony, counterpoint and composition at the Escuela Universitaria de Música and the Escuela Municipal de Música , among others . She has received numerous prizes for her compositions in both Uruguay and Venezuela, including the Premio Internacional Instituto Panamericano de Cultura (1971), the Premio Nacional de Música (1981 and 1984) and the Premio Municipal de Composición of the city of Caracas (1978, 1983) , 1984 and 1987).
