Beatrice Zavala Peniche
María Beatriz Zavala Peniche (born October 23, 1957 in Mérida ) is a Mexican politician and member of the Partido Acción Nacional (PAN). From 2006 to 2008 she was Minister of the Secretaría de Desarrollo Social (SEDESOL; German : Secretariat for Social Development ) in the government of President Felipe Calderón and from 2008 to 2012 Senator for the State of Yucatán .

She studied at the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY), is graduated Bachelor of Social Anthropology and completed a Master -Studies of sociology at the University of Kentucky (UK). She also worked as a professor at UADY.
Political offices
Zavala has been an active member of the PAN since 1995, was President of the House of Representatives ' Social Development Commission from 1997 to 2000 (57th legislative period) , from 2001 to 2003 a local member of the Yucatán Congress and from 2003 to 2006 (59th legislative period) again as a federal member.
In 2006 she was elected to the Mexican Senate to represent the Yucatán, before being appointed Secretary (Government) for Social Development in the President's Cabinet in December of the same year.
