Galbulimima is the only genus of the family Himantandraceae within the plant order of the magnolia-like (Magnoliales).

description

Vegetative characteristics

The Galbulimima species grow as trees . The alternate leaves arranged on the branches are divided into a petiole and a leaf blade. The leaf blades are simple. The aromatic leaves are covered with shield-shaped scales when they are young and have translucent oil bodies.

Generative characteristics

The flowers are hermaphroditic and stand individually in the leaf axils. As buds , they are enveloped by two leathery sepals , which can also be interpreted as bracts. The numerous stamens are flat and petal-like white or red with marginal pollen sacs. Only the inner stamens are fertile. The gynoeceum consists of seven to 15 more or less free carpels that later grow together. Per carpel , there are two (one) ovules . The gall-like, fleshy fruits contain stone pits.

Ingredients and anatomical features

Only alkaloids of the polyketide type have plant ingredients. The Xylem vessels have simple, step-shaped openings.

distribution

The genus Galbulimima occurs in the rainforests from Southeast Asia to northeastern Australia . Their southernmost occurrence there is the north of New South Wales . It occurs in New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago , the Solomon Islands and in northern and northeastern Queensland .

Systematics

The genus Galbulimima was established by Frederick Manson Bailey . The Himantandraceae family was established by Ludwig Diels .

The Himantandraceae family is the sister group of the Degeneriaceae family within the Magnoliales .

The only genus Galbulimima F.M.Bailey contains one or two species:

The two species were formerly known as the genus Himantandra F. Muell. run when the family was set up by Ludwig Diels .
