The feature film Beautiful Boxer ( Thai : บิวตี้ ฟู ล บ๊ อก เซอร์ ) by Ekachai Uekrongtham is about the real life story of Parinya Charoenphol , a Thai boxer who underwent gender reassignment surgery to become a woman physically.
The film shows all the important stages in her life, from life in the role of a boy who liked to wear lipstick, to starting out as a kick boxer at the age of 12, to a sensational career as a Thai boxer through mastering the traditional Muaythai style . She had learned this style to perfection and brought it to fame and notoriety. Finally, the internal gender conflict that leads to the operation and resignation as a Thai boxer is documented.
The film also reflects the special situation of the Kathoeys (better known is the English term ladyboy), who - unlike in Western cultures - have long been accepted and partly integrated into society.
