Francis Bede Smith (born February 28, 1886 in Wellington , New South Wales , † October 29, 1954 ) was an Australian rugby union player. The inner three-quarters was in 1908 with the Australian selection , the Wallabies , Olympic champion .

His cousin Mac Smith was also a selection player from Australia and New South Wales. Smith began rugby at All Saints College in Bathurst and later at The King's School in Parramatta , where he formed an excellent three-quarter duo with his cousin Mac. His home club later became the Waratahs Club in Orange City . In 1904 he began his testing career as a player in the selection of New South Wales , the Waratahs , for which he was a total of eighteen times until 1908. From 1905 to 1909 he was also a member of the Australian team. In addition to four international matches - all against the New Zealand All Blacks in 1904 and 1907 - he was also part of the Wallabies' squad on their first tour to Europe in 1908/09. On this tour, he missed the only two international games, but was used in the game against the county selection of Cornwall , which decided the only game of the Olympic rugby competition on the Olympic victory.

After returning to Australia, Smith was not one of the members of the team who defected to the rugby league code , but remained loyal to Union. Smith was inducted into the City of Orange 's Sporting Hall of Fame .
