Coordinates: 33 ° 17 ′  S , 149 ° 6 ′  E The City of Orange is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 284.2 km² and has about 40,000 inhabitants.

Orange is located in the central-west region of the state on the Mitchell Highway about 255 km west of the metropolis Sydney and 295 km north of the Australian capital Canberra . The area comprises 26 hamlets and hamlets: Ammerdown, Bletchington, Bloomfield, Bowen, Calare, Canobolas, Clifton Grove, Clover Hill, Glenroi, Huntley, Lucknow, Narrambla, Orange , Orange East, Orange South, Shadforth, Spring Creek, Springside, Suma Park, Summer Hill, Warrendine and portions of Borenore, March, Millthorpe, Spring Hill and Spring Terrace. The City Council is based in the city of Orange, where around 37,000 people live.

The Orange City Council has 14 members who are elected by LGA residents. Orange is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
