Coordinates: 33 ° 46 ′ S , 149 ° 51 ′ E Oberon is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 3,625.0 km² and has about 5,300 inhabitants.
Oberon is located in the Central West region about 210 km west of the metropolis of Sydney and 240 km northeast of the Australian capital Canberra . The area includes 59 hamlets and hamlets, including Black Springs, Burraga, Edith, Hazelgrove, Jenolan Caves, Mount David, Oberon , Shooters Hill, Swatchfield and parts of The Lagoon, O'Connell and Wisemans Creek. The administrative headquarters of the council is located in the city of Oberon in the northern half of the LGA, where around 2,500 people live.

The Oberon Council has nine members who are elected by LGA residents. Oberon is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
