Bedford is a locality and former city in Nova Scotia , Canada . It is a suburb of Halifax and Dartmouth .

history

At the beginning of the settlement by the British, the area of ​​Bedford belonged to Sackville . It wasn't until the middle of the 18th century that the name Bedford was used for the area, named in honor of John Russell, 4th Duke of Bedford , and Secretary of State for the Colonies. The current name was officially registered in 1896. Bedford received its town charter on July 1, 1980. Since April 1, 1996, Bedford forms the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) together with Halifax, Dartmouth and Halifax Counties.
