Bedrettin Demirel Caddesi ( German  Bedrettin-Demirel-Allee ) is an avenue in northern Nicosia . It is one of the shopping streets in the northern part of the city.

History and naming

During the British colonial era, the avenue was also known as Hilarion Avenue . The avenue has expanded over the years and high-rise buildings (tall by local standards) have been built. The headquarters of the Yüksel Ahmet Raşit Group, located on the avenue, was the tallest building in North Nicosia until it was surpassed by the Merit Hotel next to it in the late 2010s. The street was named in memory of Brigadier General Bedrettin Demirel , who was an officer in Operation Atilla .

Facilities

The avenue is home to the Assembly of the Republic , the Ministry of Health of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the Turkish Embassy North Nicosia , the headquarters of the Turkish Electricity Authority in Cyprus , the headquarters of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce in Cyprus and some companies. The avenue intersects with Dereboyu Avenue and Selçuklu Avenue , at the intersection of the Prime Minister's Office building.
