The BeeCard ( jap.ビーカード) is a memory card which was originally designed for use with the MSX - home computers was developed. The original price was 960 yen when it was launched .

history

It came onto the market in Japan around 1984/85 and was a development by Hudson Soft ; the cards were produced by Mitsubishi Plastics . In order to be able to use them with home computers, however, a special adapter called the Bee Pack was required. The hardware was rather unsuccessful, only nine games were published on the storage medium .

In 1987, Hudson developed the HuCard , a memory card for the PC engine, together with Nippon Electric Corporation (NEC) . Technically, the BeeCard and HuCard are very similar, the dimensions are identical. Only the number of pins differs; the BeeCard has 32 pins and the successor product had 38 pins.

In 1989 the Atari portfolio appeared , which used the BeeCards under the name CCM (Credit Card Memory) . Furthermore, it was also in several synthesizers from Korg used.

Technical specifications

BeeCards are ordinary ROM cards , some of which were also used as a RAM expansion . The storage capacity can be 64 to 128 KB , and 32, 64 or 128 KB RAM can be provided as an expansion for the main memory.
