Fortification Neheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Neheim fortification was a fortification system similar to a city fortification to protect against attackers in Neheim , a district of Arnsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

Neheim received its fortification in the first half of the 13th century. A mighty tower was first mentioned in a document in 1369. The castle houses Freseken and Schüngel as well as Gransau , which later went into private ownership, were integrated. The fortification that took place in 1263 gave Neheim a town-like character, but the place was not in possession of full urban freedoms. To reward the citizens of the border fortress for services rendered so far, gave Count Gottfried IV. By a deed dated July 25, 1358 lip MOORISH law. The community was partially detached from the power of counts and received important privileges.
