Beguinage
The Rostock Beginenberg is a historic street in the center of the Hanseatic city . In a west-east direction, it connects Steinstrasse with the An der Viergelindenbrücke square . The Beginenberg is part of the former Rostock middle town .

The Beguinage was first mentioned in 1308 as mons bagginarum . The name of the street is firstly derived from the hillside location of the street, as all streets running from the central town towards Grube (today's Grubenstraße ) have a more or less steep gradient. Hence the designation as -berg. Since the beguines , a benevolent lay community of unmarried women and widows, were settled in the street, the street was finally called the beguinage. In medieval and early modern Rostock Beginenberg took, sometimes also Beg u written inenberg a medium importance one that came through the development of so-called "gable-permanent booths" so booths with attached gable expressed. In the course of the British bombardment at the end of April 1942 , the south side was completely destroyed, some of the historical building fabric was preserved on the north side.
It is worth mentioning the Beginenberg 1, a large, classical granary, in number 2 there is a medieval cellar. The Beginenberg 25-26 is the former front building of the Tattersall Rostock, which was located in the inner courtyard behind. The house was built in the 1870s, has a historicizing facade and is now used as a hostel. All three buildings have the status of a Rostock architectural monument .
Today the Beguinage is a relatively quiet residential area.
