Bierstadter Warte
The Bierstadter Warte is a watch tower built in 1473 by Count Johann II of Nassau-Wiesbaden-Idstein (1419–1480) on the Bierstadter Höhe in Wiesbaden-Bierstadt , which was used to observe the area around Mainz .
The cylindrical tower 9.8 meters high to the roof has a 60 centimeter high roof, so that its total height is 10.4 meters. It is not open to the public and has antennas for the fire service radio on its tip .
The watch tower is a landmark of Bierstadt. Representations of the tower have already been used in historical court seals, and a stylized representation of the Warttower in silver on a red background forms the local coat of arms even today.
On October 18, 1814, court attorney Wilhelm Snell gave a speech about freedom and equality by torchlight.
The Bismarck Tower , a 50 m high wooden observation tower, which was popularly known as the "Wiesbaden Eiffel Tower", stood near the Wartturm from 1910 to 1918 .
