The Waldemar Behn GmbH is a German beverage wholesalers and spirits company based in the Schleswig-Holstein Eckernförde . The family business is now run in the fourth generation by Rüdiger and Waldemar Behn.

The Behn company was founded in Gettorf in 1892 by Waldemar Behn, the son of a Hamburg beer brewer . First he sold the beer his father had bought to workers who were building the Kiel Canal (at that time Kaiser Wilhelm Canal) near Kiel. A short time later, he started supplying the catering trade and expanded his range to include non-alcoholic drinks and spirits from his own production.

In 1906, Behn took over the brewery in Eckernförde, where the company's headquarters are today. The brewery facilities had to be dismantled during the First World War . Subsequently, his son Richard Behn took over the company and steered it together with his family and some employees through the obstacles of the Second World War .

When his son Harro Behn joined the company in 1952, he introduced the branded products Kadeker-Doppelkorn in the 1950s and Whiskey-Kirsch in the 1960s.

With the production of Lemon Jette , the company became known internationally, especially in Denmark . The slogan “ Do you know him? - it's from BEHN! “Contributed to the success in Germany. Since 1985, Behn produces the spirit coastal fog . On the occasion of the company's centenary, Behn presented “ Little Coward ”, which was and is also internationally successful. With Dooley's Toffee & Vodka , Behn founded a new category in the spirits market in 2000.

Gradually, the beverage wholesaling business grew steadily. Not least because of the takeover of smaller competitors, Behn is now the market leader in the north of Schleswig-Holstein and a partner of the major national and regional breweries and also has a comprehensive range of non-alcoholic beverages, wine, sparkling wine and spirits, which the company sells from the Eckernförde and Flensburg supplies around 900 restaurants.

On April 1, 2013 Behn took over the Danzka Vodka brand from the French spirits group Belvedere. It was the largest investment in the family company's 121-year history.
