The Radeberger Distillation & Likörfabrik GmbH (alternative spelling: Radeberger Distillation & Liqueurfabrik ) is a spirits manufacturer founded in 1877 in the Saxon town of Radeberg . Under the name Original Radeberger one is herbal liqueur manufactured and sold. The company has been part of Waldemar Behn GmbH since 1997 .

history

In 1877 Wilhelm Richter founded the company in Radeberg, initially under the name of steam distillation and liqueur factory Goldene Sonne . He began with producing a herbal liqueur as a first-rate medicinal bitter. Numerous documents received from customers of the factory testify that the liqueur is gentle on the stomach . At the end of the 19th century the liqueur was served at the Saxon royal court . The liqueur factory is said to have received the title of Royal Saxon Court Supplier. At the turn of the century the factory was one of four distilleries in Radeberg. At the beginning of the 20th century Richter already had 40 employees, making the Golden Sun the largest distillery in the city. Due to the commercial success of the factory, the range was expanded to include a sugar-free traditional Radeberger bitter and other spirits such as caraway schnapps or cherry liqueur .

Production came to an almost complete standstill during World War II . After the end of the war, the liqueur factory had to cede parts of the distillation facilities to the Soviet occupying power as reparations . The descendants of the company founder rebuilt the factory. The company was popularly known as the schnapps judge . In the course of the last great wave of expropriation in the GDR , the company was nationalized in 1972 and incorporated into the VEB Bramsch Dresden. By the shortage economy in the GDR the herb was used to Bückware . The sale only took place once a week (every Thursday). Long queues in front of the factory on sales days were the result. At times production had to be completely stopped due to a lack of ingredients. The SED district management in Dresden then considered restructuring the company to produce delicatessen salads. However, this plan was not implemented.

After the fall of the Wall and German reunification , the liqueur factory returned to family ownership in the course of reprivatisation. Business came to a standstill again and again due to the severe dilapidation of the parent company, which made extensive renovation of the building and the distillation plants necessary. Production was limited to the original Radeberger bitter .
