Behold… the Arctopus is an American band from New York .
history
The band was formed in 2001 by guitarists Colin Marston and Mike Lerner. After playing together for a year and a half, drummer Charlie Zeleny joined the band and completed the line-up. Up until the arrival of Zeleny, Marston and Lerner had already published two demos online, in which a drum computer was still used. In 2003 the demo Arctopocalypse Now… Warmageddon Later followed , which in 2005 was followed by the EP Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summoning . In order to promote the EP, appearances followed in June of the same year in the USA together with Time of Orchids and Genghis Tron . In 2006, a split release with Orthrelm followed, which included the new song Paincave . The cover of the publication was designed by Michel “Away” Langevin ( Voivod ). In the same year the compilation Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summoning was released , which included the EP of the same name and the demo Arctopocalypse Now… Warmageddon Later , as well as four live songs. In 2007 Black Market Activities released their debut album Skullgrid , which was followed by the second album Horrorscension on the same label in 2012 .
style
Particularly characteristic of the band is the use of a Warr guitar , a 12-string guitar that covers the sound spectrum of the bass and the guitar. The guitar is usually played by tapping by Marston . According to Allmusic's Marisa Brown , Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summoning was heavily influenced by metal , 20th century classical music, and the improvisational nature of jazz . Conor Fynes from metal-observer.com described the music on Horrorscension as technically very demanding Extreme Metal , with no clear song structure recognizable in the songs. Udo Gerhards from Baby Blue Pages assigned the album to Math Metal ,
