The Behr AG , headquartered in Seevetal is engaged in production, trade and logistics of vegetables and salads as well as agricultural products. The group of companies is the market leader in the cultivation of salads and vegetables, produces year-round and covers a fully integrated value chain covering cultivation, harvest, scheduling, trade, logistics and agricultural advice. According to the Hamburger Abendblatt, it is Germany's largest vegetable grower. The character of a family business is an important brand core of the agricultural group of companies.
history
The company is now managed in the fourth generation by Rudolf Behr, together with Georg Hürth since 2016. It has its roots in a small vegetable farm in Rosenweide, half an hour's drive south of Hamburg. As early as 1882, vegetables were grown here outdoors and brought to the Hamburg wholesale market with a barge across the Elbe. In 1983 Rudolf Behr took over the business from his father.
In the following years the company developed and grew very strongly, especially with the introduction of new types of salad and vegetables. In the 1980s, Behr brought the iceberg lettuce and a few years later the mini Romana salad to success in Germany. Today, Behr is one of Germany's largest lettuce growers, with locations also in other European countries.
Products
Behr AG and its subsidiaries grow a wide range of different types of vegetables, including: a. Carrots , cauliflower , broccoli and various types of salad . The most important product is the iceberg lettuce. The company sells around 60 million of these per year.
Customers are mainly German food retailers (LEH), and food retailers in other European countries are also supplied.
