occupation

With us and around the corner is a six-part German children's and family series of the ARD for the sixtieth anniversary of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany . Six episodes of 15 minutes each are about everyday stories of a family that somehow have to do with the Basic Law.

These everyday stories are also about "human dignity, the right to freedom of expression and the right not to be discriminated against because of a disability."

For director Bernd Böhlich , who has already been awarded the Adolf Grimme Prize twice for his television work, it was important “that the project doesn't turn into such a meaningful, state-supporting story”. Above all, he wanted to “interest children in what our society” holds together at least legally ”.

And that seems to have succeeded, says the parent TV advisor Flimmo: “This is how the film succeeds in showing in an entertaining and vivid way where there is contact with basic rights in everyday life, even if you sometimes don't even notice it. "

All episodes are available as videos in the online service of the SWR Children's Network . There is also a lot of series information and a “constitutional” deepening on the topic.

action

The focus is on the Grundmann family: Linda (14 years old) and Moritz (8 years old), their parents Ina and Maximilian Grundmann and their grandpa Konrad Schramm. The Grundmanns own the corner restaurant "Konrads", which is located in Halle on the Saale . Moritz and Linda go to school and meet up with their friends in the afternoons or pursue their hobbies: Moritz is passionate about playing football and Linda sings in a medieval school band when she is not writing for the school newspaper or meeting her clique. And their parents are understanding and cooperative. But they also make mistakes, for example when they drop Mo's long-awaited family outing at short notice or read Linda's diary without being asked.

But then Kevin, the newcomer in his class, joins the team and makes Moritz great competition. Kevin is a great striker. He is not only better tactically than Moritz, but also very fast. However, he doesn't have one thing: the right football boots for the tournament. And Kevin can't afford the cool red soccer shoes.

Article 2: "Right to Free Development"

Linda (14 years) is a singer in a school band. They make fantasy folk music and it fits very well if she dresses appropriately for band rehearsals. Linda likes that and so Linda puts on make-up and dark clothes - and not just for band rehearsals. This creates a lot of stress in their family and school environment. But Linda fights for her rights.

Linda and Peter meet for the first time on the day of the party. And Linda is shocked: Peter is in a wheelchair. Linda is hurt and feels betrayed.

Article 5: "Freedom of Expression"

Linda advocates more fairness in lessons with teacher Wolfgang Schuckmann. She finds his methods nasty and unjust and doesn't want to be intimidated by him. Then she and her friends publish a teacher vote in the school newspaper. The results are not surprising: Schuckmann is voted last. The teacher wants to prevent the poll results from being published. But Linda and her friends find a way to defend their right to freedom of expression.

Moritz and his friend Justin are looking forward to a trip: They want to go on a rowing boat trip with Ina and Max Grundmann as well as with Grandpa Konrad Schramm. But the adults' plans change again and nothing comes of the trip. Moritz and Justin are very disappointed. Without further ado, set out on their own and put yourself in danger.

Article 10: "Correspondence"

In a quarrel between Moritz and Linda, Moritz exposes his sister: He has read Linda's diary and reveals to his mother that Linda is in love with Lammers' teacher and has kissed him. That's how he read it. Ina Grundmann grabs the book and is shocked: Does Linda really have a relationship with the German teacher? Without hesitation, Ina gets to the bottom of the matter and thus puts Linda in an extremely embarrassing situation.
