Ampelographic varietal characteristics
In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:
- The shoot tip is open. It is hairy white and woolly with a carmine-red tinge. The young leaves are only slightly woolly hairy and spotted bronze (anthocyanin spots).
- The large leaves are five-lobed (rarely 7- to 9-lobed) and deeply indented. The stem bay is open in a U-shape. The blade is bluntly serrated. In the comparison of the grape varieties, the teeth have an inserted distance. The leaf surface (also called the leaf blade) is slightly blistered.
- The cylindrical to cone-shaped grape is large, shouldered and loose berries. The round berries are medium-sized and black-purple in color. The juicy berries have a pleasant, but neutral taste.
The Bekari variety is therefore considered to ripen quite early among the red grape varieties. In Epirus it can usually be harvested at the end of August.
Bekari is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is therefore self-fertilizer.
