Vlachiko

The red wine variety Vlachiko ( Greek Βλαχικο ) is native to the Greek region of Epirus and approved for commercial viticulture in the regional district of Ioannina . In rosé of country wine Ioannina Vlachiko in addition to the variety Bekari the leading variety.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy white and woolly. The young leaves are only slightly hairy and of a yellow-green color.
  • The leaves are three-lobed and indented to a medium depth (see also the article leaf shape ). The stalk bay is open in a V-shape (rarely closed). The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth have a medium distance in comparison to the grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called the leaf blade) is shiny.
  • The cylindrical to cone-shaped grape is large, shouldered and moderately dense. The round berries are medium-sized and black-purple in color. The juicy berries have a thin skin.

The Vlachiko grape variety ripens 35 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered late-ripening among the red grape varieties. It is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ).

Synonyms

The Vlachiko grape variety is also known under the names Blachiko, Blachos, Vlachico de Jannina, Vlachos and Vlahico.
