Belén Garijo (born July 31, 1960 in Almansa ) is a Spanish doctor and manager .

Life

After completing her studies, Garijo initially worked as a doctor in the field of clinical pharmacology for six years before moving to the pharmaceutical industry. She worked for Abbott Laboratories for eight years in research and development. At Rhône-Poulenc Rorer (RPR) she headed the Oncology Business Unit from 1996 . In 2000, she is in this area in the newly merged Aventis Corporation for vice president appointed. In 2003 Garijo became Managing Director of Aventis Spain and managed the merger with Sanofi and, from 2011, the global integration following the acquisition of Genzyme .

In 2011, Garijo moved to the Biopharma division of Merck KGaA as Chief Operating Officer . In 2013 she was promoted to President and CEO of the Biopharma Business and has been a member of the Executive Board and CEO of the Healthcare Business Unit since 2015. She is the female member of the executive board of a DAX company who receives the highest compensation.

Private

Belén Garijo is married to a surgeon and has two daughters.
