particularities
The Singverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, under the direction of Johannes Prinz, took part in a New Year's concert by the Vienna Philharmonic for the first time, with the moonrise from the opera Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor by Otto Nicolai , founder of the Vienna Philharmonic. The orchestra celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2017 and was seen for the first time in a new concert dress designed by Vivienne Westwood and Andreas Kronthaler . There were eight premieres on the program, and silver dust was blown into the audience by the organ. In their program, the Philharmoniker paid tribute to the 300th birthday of Maria Theresa , the world premiere of the waltz On the Beautiful Blue Danube 150 years ago, the founding of the Vienna Clock Museum a hundred years ago and its own 175th anniversary. For the Polka 'S there is only a imperial city, there is only a Vienna , pictures of the Maria Theresa Monument , the Hofburg , Schönbrunn Palace and the Theresian Academy were shown, for the waltz Die Extravaganten pictures from the Piber Federal Stud , the Heldenberg Training Center and the Spanish Riding School .
ballet
The costumes for the two dance interludes were designed by Christof Cremer, who was last responsible for the designs at the 2012 New Year's concert. The choreography comes from Renato Zanella for the first time after 2010 . The dance interludes for the waltz Walk in from the operetta The Estimator by Carl Michael Ziehrer was recorded in August 2016 under the direction of Michael Beyer, the first filming locations for a New Year's concert were the Hermesvilla and the Lainzer Tiergarten . Ten soloists from the Vienna State Ballet danced : Liudmila Konovalova and Robert Gabdullin , Ketevan Papava and Eno Peci, Nina Poláková and Denys Cherevychko , Franziska Wallner-Hollinek and Mihail Sosnovschi as well as Alice Firenze and Davide Dato . The second dance performance was not pre-recorded, but danced live by students from the Ballet Academy at the Wiener Musikverein. The costumes for the ladies for the waltz Walk in were inspired by the premises of the Hermesvilla and its first resident, Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary , whose birthday will be 180 years in 2017. The men's costumes were based on kuk military uniforms in memory of military bandmaster Ziehrer .
