We're not that scared

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We're not that afraid is a quick polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 413). The work was first performed in late 1883 or early 1884.

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the operetta One Night in Venice . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 411 , 412 , 414 , 415 and 416 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. Johann Strauss named the work after the couplet of the same name in the second act of this operetta. The main theme, however, comes from a song by the chef Pappacoda Drum be happy Venetia, Pappacoda is here! . In addition, a theme was incorporated into the polka that has since been removed from the operetta score. The work was very well received and is still performed to this day. The exact date and place of the premiere are not known. This event must take place between October 3, 1883, the premiere of the operetta, and Mardi Gras in 1884. In the carnival season, the polka was part of the dance repertoire.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 17 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
