The pigeons of San Marco

The pigeons of San Marco is a polka- French by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 414). The work was first performed on February 3, 1884 in the Volksgarten in Vienna .

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the operetta One Night in Venice . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 411 , 412 , 413 , 415 and 416 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. Among other things, the song Die Tauben von San Marco, who is not familiar with them from the 3rd finale, and the duet You said my love pleading (score number 10, 2nd act) were processed in the Polka . The world premiere was conducted by Eduard Strauss .
