One night in Venice (Quadrille)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Night in Venice is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 416). It was performed for the first time on February 4, 1884 in the Vienna Hofburg .

Remarks

The work was compiled based on motifs from the operetta One Night in Venice , which premiered in 1883 . It thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 411 , 412 , 413 , 414 , and 415 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. Since the operetta was reworked again and again shortly after its premiere on October 3, 1883, some parts of the quadrille are no longer part of the stage work. After the performance in the Hofburg, the work was played several times during the carnival of 1884, mostly under the direction of Eduard Strauss .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 6 minutes and 10 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
