Annina (polka)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Annina is a polka mazurka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 415). The work was first performed in late 1883 or early 1884.

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the operetta One Night in Venice . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 411 , 412 , 413 , 414 , and 416 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The title goes back to the operetta character Annina (lover of the barber Caramello ). As the operetta was reworked again and again shortly after its premiere on October 3, 1883, some parts of the polka are no longer part of the stage work. The exact date and place of the premiere of the polka are not known. But it must have been late 1883 or early 1884. The work has been performed over and over again to this day. But it is not one of the composer's great successes.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 16 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
