Gypsy Baron Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gypsy Baron Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 422). It was performed for the first time on January 28, 1886 in the Vienna Hofburg .

Remarks

The work was compiled based on motifs from the operetta Der Zigeunerbaron , which premiered in 1885 . It joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 417 , 418 , 419 , 420 , and 421 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. In this case, many of the best-known themes of the operetta were linked together. A small operetta potpourri was created. After the premiere in the Vienna Hofburg on the occasion of a court ball, the quadrille was played at the carnival ball of the Concordia journalists' association on March 2, 1886, under the direction of Eduard Strauss . The work was also dedicated to this association.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 48 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
