Simplicius Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Simplicius Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 429). It was performed for the first time on February 19, 1888 in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein .

Remarks

The work was compiled based on motifs from the unsuccessful operetta Simplicius , which premiered in 1887 . It thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 427 , 428 , 430 , 431 and 432 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. This also includes the Old German Waltz , which was published without an opus number . The first performance of the Quadrille took place as part of the Carnival Revue in 1888 under the direction of Eduard Strauss . The work is not one of the composer's great successes.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 37 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
