Camp lust

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lagerlust is a polka mazurka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 431). The work was first performed in late 1887 or early 1888.

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the unsuccessful operetta Simplicius . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 427 , 428 , 429 , 430 , and 432 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. This also includes the Old German Waltz , which was published without an opus number . The title name results from the content of the operetta, in which the camp life of the soldiers is shown. Neither the location nor the date of the premiere of the polka have been recorded. It is possible that this work was also premiered by a military band, as was the case with the Polka Soldatenspiel . This polka was also somewhat forgotten and was rarely performed, if at all. In doing so, she shared her fate with the operetta, which also failed.

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 4 minutes and 30 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
