War adventure

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

War adventure is a Schnellpolka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 419). The work was performed for the first time on December 13, 1885 in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein under the direction of Eduard Strauss .

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the operetta Der Zigeunerbaron . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 417 , 418 , 420 , 421 and 422 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The main themes of the work are the couplet of the pig farmer Zsupan in the third act Von des Tajos Strand and parts of the so-called Werberlied . The title goes back to the aforementioned couplet Zsupans, who brags about his war adventures in the operetta. The polka was dedicated to the sculptor Viktor Tilgner , who was friends with the composer.

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 2 minutes and 59 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
